THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

This league was formed in 1934 and the latest franchise to join the ranks is the Rec-King Crew. In 2003, our team came aboard and was greeted with eleven straight losses before making a dent in the win column. We kept chugging along and we managed to win a respectable 31 games and missed the playoffs by only one game. We shared a name with another new squad as Town Of Newburgh Recreation Team #1 & Team #2, but after two seasons and a desire not to be confused with that team we changed our name to the Rec-King Crew for the 2005 season. In 2004, we advanced to the World Series and lost 2 games to 1 to our arch rivals the St Francis Flames. We won the league title in 2005 by topping the Meadow Hill Guards in the finals. Then in 2006 -07 season, we made a third straight trip the World Series and captured our second straight crown by virtue of a 9th inning game winning homer by Nick Sibilia to cap a dramatic comeback over the Bethlehem Shepherds. We came close to fourth straight World Series last year before Little Britain snapped a tie in the eighth inning of the final game of our semi-final series.

The core group of Tony Garzione, Ken DeGroat, Jim Dougan, Jimmy Dougan, Mark MacEntee, Gary MacEntee, Mickey Chumas, Glenn Looney and Nick Sibilia were members of the original squad. Mike Barton joined the team in 2004 and the roster has not changed since then. Looney was the only team member to even participate in a dartball game prior to our team's inception. Despite having a very successful run, our team is a very quiet group that prefers to not engage in the acceptable light hearted trash talking utilized but some squads.

We are considered a very competitive unit and we do give our best effort each & every week, but I feel we enjoy every aspect of the great game of dartball. We are very jovial, sportsmanlike and look forward to the comrade that accompanies each match. We finished the 2009 regular season by winning 18 of our last 21 games and hopefully our good fortune continues on into the playoffs.

We are honored that the league has afforded us the opportunity to host this very special banquet to celebrate our 75th season and to honor the Hall of Fame members and their families from the previous era.
