Lange, Lance - St. Francis Flames

Towering 'flame' thrower capable of some towering performances ... Lacks only consistency ... Has the talent to rank him among the best shooters in the game ... Has hit .363, .330, .318 and .343 the last four years ... When he is locked in on his base very few are better ... Exhibits great sportsmanship.

 

Lewis, Alan - Bethlehem Warriors

The Rhino ... Returned to the Warriors mid-season in 2006 ... Clutch-hitting a big bonus in Warriors' post season run ... One of the game's top double shooters, collecting 699 doubles from 1998 - 2006 ... Author of well known umpiring catch-phrase: "This is oooooot!" ... Led Newburgh Rec team in doubles in 2005 with 66.


Lewis, Mike - Bethlehem Warriors

[Four singles titles]

A man of plain excellence ... One of nicest guys in the game ... Underrated ... Has led league in singles four times since 2001 and no one seems to know ... Number one on all-time singles list with 898 ... Warrior's leadoff hitter ... Possesses even disposition and has no pretensions about himself ... Good son, missed his first World Series opportunity to attend parent's 60th Wedding Anniversary.

  

Lulves, Jim - Little Britain Grange

[Two singles titles]

Complete player ... Superior shooter who has made successful shooting a habit ... After dominating the league's singles category shooting 224 in the two year period of 1998-99, switched to the double ... Shot 108 doubles in 2001 with league-leading 109 RBI ... Now shoots both bases ... Hit league best .450 in 2004 ... Posted a .378 mark last year ... Confidence shows in his performance.

 

MacEntee, Gary - Rec-King Crew

Unsung superstar ... Gets less attention than he deserves playing alongside Dougan, DeGroat and his namesake ... Truly does it all ... Shot 90 singles in 2007 after shooting 108 year before ... Collected 27 doubles last season as well ... Captained his team to third consecutive World Series appearance ... A .370 hitter those years ... Does exceptional job of promoting the league.

 

MacEntee, Mark - Rec-King Crew

His initials should be RBI ... Drove in 74 runs in only his third full season with a .371 average ... Expected to rank among game's best run producers (the Coleman Bros., DiCesare, Flagler) for the next decade ... Drove home 55 in 2005 ... Quiet player with a deadly dart ... Has collected 229 hits last two seasons.

 

Marshall, Leroy - Balmville-Lattingtown

Bombs away ... Attacks the center of the board like few men can ... Became just the fourth player to reach 125 or more HRs ... Number three on all-time list trailing only the DiCesares ... His 19 circuit blasts matched his career best from 2001 ... Seems to terrorize the Flames each year ... Spent over a dozen years as team captain.

 

McCorvey, Jim - Bethlehem Church

A fixture in the Bethlehem lineup ... Leadoff hitter for many years ... "Jim McCorvey is amazing," says captain James Henry ... Led club in triples with 9 ... Hit 14 in 2006, and 11 year before that ... Ranks number three on all-time list ... Speaks only when spoken to ... Has been the beneficiary of 13 errors since 2003.     

 

Moses, Aaron - Moulton Memorial Church

Budding star ... Has hit over .300 two of last three years with high water mark of .318 in 2006 ... Has hit as many as 58 doubles in a season with potential to hit many more ... Began playing as a pre-teen with his dad Stuart back in 2002 ... Has virtually no wasted motion on his dart ... Team's top umpire last season.

 

Mitchell, John - St. Francis Crusaders

"Mitch" ... Still toughest out in Crusader lineup ... A skilled hitter and slick veteran team captain who knows the rules of the game ... Has led team in doubles 6 years running ... Collected 115 two-baggers in 2002 ... With most of his veteran players gone, has begun grooming a new team for the future ... No. 6 on all-time 2B list ... Should be a spokesperson for chewing gum company, as he is seldom without it.    

 

Muller, Kyle - Little Britain Grange

Impressive young shooter ... Began playing at an early age and responded like a veteran ... Has outstanding arm strength ... Has hit .350 or higher every year since 2003 ... Threatened to join the elite .400 club with a .399 performance in 2005 ... Climbing all-time list with 481 singles ... Friendly and down to earth.   

 

Nelson, Jim - Moulton Memorial Church

Underrated, underpublicized and to some underappreciated ... Had another typical and  quietly successful season ... Posting a .354 mark ... Hit .314 in 2002, .349 in 2003 ... Remains adept at shooting both the single (57) and the double (27) ... Collected 80 doubles in 2002 season ... Has a positive, philosophical approach to the game ... A joy to speak with following the games.

 

Ostrander, Bill - Meadow Hill Guards

A dynamo ... In constant motion ... Considered by many to be the most complete player in the game ... Perfect fusion of skill, determination and intensity ... Led Guards in RBI with 45 in 2007 ... One of only two players in league to rank in the Top 20 on both the all-time singles list (19th) and the doubles lists (14th) ... Other is Little Britain's Jim Lulves ... Hit .410 in 2003 ... Excellent umpire.

 

Pacella, Mike - St. Francis Crusaders

[One home run title]

Big Mike ... Good man to have on your side, especially with a dart in his hands ... One of few long-time veterans remaining on team ... Has been used as a doubles shooter, a triples shooter and a home run shooter in recent years ... Gained most notoriety in the last category, leading league in round trippers with 19 in 2005 ... Number 4 on the all-time HR list with 128 ... Taught number 1 man on list, Chris DiCesare, to throw underhand style.

 

Parrone, Don - Meadow Hill Guards

Rugged-looking shooter ... Respect for him around league such that he remains among the most revered singles shooters in spite of recent health ailments ... Among the most prolific singles shooters in league history ... Has been setting the table for over 40 years ... Helped form Warriors team back in 1980 ... Played with Club-60 before that ... Led Guards with a .365 mark in 2007 ... Skilled in the art of distracting opposing players.

 

Rhodes, Stan - Meadow Hill Guards

"Stosh" - Versatile shooter who adds savvy, hustle and humor to the game ... Awarded league's highest honor in 2001 with admission into the Hall of Fame ... Motto should be "One-for-three" ... Hit .339 in 1999, .338 in 2003, .336 in 1998 and .331 in 2000 ... Excellent hitter in clutch situations ... Good defensive player.    

 

Robertson, Dave - Bethlehem

Dave who? That was the word around the league when he began to impact games with his steady hitting back in 2001 ... They found out soon enough ... Provides stability to team that made the World Series three times in his first four years ... Not flashy, but has shot 156 doubles the last three seasons ... Led Bethlehem with 6 game-winning hits last year.

 

Ruggiero, Chris - Gardnertown Church

Could be the singles king of the future ... Average has climbed from .204 to .236 to .308 to .317 over the last four seasons ... Will jump up even further in 2008 if his 17 consecutive singles on Valentine's Day are any indication ... Collected 19 hits on the night in 21 at bats in a sweep of first place Little Britain. 

 

Ruggiero, Jim Jr. - Gardnertown Church

Seeing was believing ... Jumped from a .356 average in 2006 to an amazing .511 mark last year ... A natural like his dad ... The surprise of the year ... First hitting title of possibly many ... His 128 singles placed him second to only Mike Lewis ... Number 5 on all-time list with 708 in spite of young age ... Would like to become a league officer in the future.

 

Ruggiero, Jim Sr. - Gardnertown Church

[One doubles title]

Enigmatic and complex personality ... Perhaps the best talent in the game today ... A marvelous combination of poise and skill ... Stunned league with his breakout .526 record performance in 1999 as a double shooter ... Almost reprised that performance in 2003 with a .515 mark ... Topped both those performances with his .527 as a single shooter in 2006 ... Considers his .435 last season an off year ... Number 9 on all-time doubles list.

 

Sauer, Harry - Bethlehem Church

True grit ... Has suffered his share of injuries and operations over the last few years ... Would love to regain the form that saw him hit .373 in 2003 ... Made it onto all-time double list last year ... A 1992 inductee into the Hall of Fame ... Outspoken ... Not afraid to share his opinions ... Heads the Nominating Committee.

 

Scagnelli, Dean - Balmville-Lattingtown

Lanky veteran ... Approaching the enchanted world of 1,000 doubles ... Enters the season with 813 ... Number 5 on the all-time list ... Among active players only Frank Coleman, Dan Coleman and Tom Flagler have more ... Added 75 more last season ... 2004 HOF inductee ... Sons Kevin and Paul are also active in the league.  

 

Scarano, Nick - Meadow Hill Guards

The steady man ... Led team in singles (55) for third time in last four years ... Posted averages of .338 or higher last 6 years with a .376 in 2006 ... One of dartball's outstanding gentlemen ... Has moved steadily up the all-time singles list to the number 11 spot ... Team's leadoff hitter ... Has a professional air about him.

 

Sibilia, Nick - Rec-King Crew

World Series hero ... Two home runs gave team second consecutive league title ... Not a stranger to the long ball ... Shot career high 21 HRs in 2006 ... But known more for shooting doubles with 109 over the last two seasons ... Ironically, raised his average 85 points from previous year to .321 by focusing less on the center of the board.

 

Sicina, Rick - Balmville-Lattingtown

[One singles title]

Fast becoming one of the best single shooters in recent history ... His 234 singles over the last two seasons second only to Mike Lewis ... Paced the league in 2006 with 124 ... Looks a lot like Elton John, but does not sing him him ... Throws a better dart though ... Wants to lead team to first World Series appearance in 18 years ... Well respected across the league for his even temperment and professionalism ... Number 4 on all-time singles list.

 

Stevens, Lonnie - Balmville-Lattingtown

[One triples title]

The Boomer ... Big man with flamboyant personality and performance ... Batting averages have slipped in recent years, but his .335 in 2001 is indicative of his play over several decades ... Still deadly on the three, as his league-leading 12 triples last year indicate ... Only Butch Coleman stands between him and the top spot on the all-time triples list ... Stevens has 81 ... Hard not to like.

 

Supple, Joe - Bethlehem Warriors

At last, a number three shooter to cherish ... No matter how hard they looked, Warriors could not find themselves a quality number three man ... But along came Supple and for two years now they have been satisfied ... Led Warriors in doubles with 77 ... Had 68 two-baggers year prior ... Teammates sing theme song "Joe Supple in the sky" after key hits ... Especially effective against Little Britain Grange.  

 

Tremper, Gary - Moulton Memorial Church

Not Wolf Blitzer of CNN, but easily could be ... Doesn't get the attention he deserves ... Fine all-around dartballer ... Worked his way onto the all-time doubles list in 2006 with a strong total of 75 ... Hit .349 ... Led club with 61 his first full season in 2001 ... An excellent singer and musician ... Very personable.

 

Tweed, Mel - Gardnertown Church

Power surge ... 19 home runs last year moved him into the top ten on the all-time HR list with 86 ... His 7 triples moved him into the top ten on the all-time triple list with 46 ... Doesn't hit for a high average, but one of the best clutch hitters in the game ... Excellent carpentry skills ... Built many of the boards in use by the league today ... Always ready to lend a hand.

 

Yonnone, Sam - St. Francis Flames

A mainstay ... Dependable performer who annually produces between 70 and 80 doubles a year ... Crested with 88 doubles and 61 RBI in 2002 in the attempt to get Flames into third consecutive World Series ... Just a handful of doubles away from 10th place on the all-time doubles list ... Comes into season with 687 ... An avid civil war buff who has taken part in many re-enactments.   

     

Ward, Snookie - Marlboro Men

Hard to know just how good he is ... Team has not turned in season stats since 2003 ... In spite of adding zero singles to his total over the last four years, still is in the top 25 all-time ... Hit .424 in 2003 ... Hit .432 in 2002 ... Hit .414 in 2001 ... The rest remains a mystery.
