Kerry Lyon arrived on the wiffleball scene in 1999 and promptly
became one of the top players in the league. He finished runner-up in the Rookie of the Year ballotting posting a 3.41 IRA
a .667 winning percentage and he led the league in holds. But the following year Kerry would take his skills a
step further.
In 2000 he lowered his IRA to 2.99, finishing number two in the Cy Young ballotting.
The winner of three consecutive Most Improved Player Awards, Kerry won the first of two back-to-back Cy Young Awards
in 2001. He lead the league with 8 victories, 90 strikeouts and 36 shutout innings.
Quite an achievement. But as always with Kerry, there was more he wanted to do. In
2002, he set a league record with 11 victories in one season while collecting 85 more KO's and an IRA of 3.09. He also developed
into an exceptional hitter, as he became only the fourth hitter in Wombat history to go yard 80 times in a season. Add his
third Gold Glove to the mix and you had one of the greatest all-round players the game has ever seen.
Then a series of disasters struck. A forearm injury, a sore elbow and finally major
surgery. The trifecta was too much for even Kerry to overcome and he took time off from the game, playing only sparingly
in 2003 and 2004. When you have over two feet of your innards extracted, wiffleball becomes a lesser priority!
Yet the player known for comebacks and improvements aims to come back in 2005. If you
bet against him, you don't know Kerry very well.
