Saturday, July 23rd - Both Timmy Davis and Matt Friedenberg pitched the Wombats to victory
in the first three rounds of the KISS-FM Wiffleball tournament. Davis won games 1 and 3 and
Friedenberg won the second. Both players also had game-winning hits.
With 16 teams in the running (and with the rules seemingly changing at random) the wombats managed
to climb their way into the finals against the Ball Breakers after defeating Milwaukee's Finest
in Round One; the Dawgs in Round Two and the Dutchess Ramrods.
The Championship game went into extra innings when a Ball Breaker walked with bases loaded
on a 3-2 count to earn a 1-0 win over our guys. Derrick Frost - a former member of the Wombat wiffleball
League - and his brother were on the winning team. It was a rough loss for the Wombats who left
7 runners on base in the game, but the runner-up spot was still a sterling accomplishment.
All four games the Wombats played went into extra innings, making for some intense moments. As
did the DJ umpires who saw little need in applying the same rules from team to team or game
to game. Ouch.
Special Thanks to Rita DiCesare, Valerie Lewis, Brian Gordon and the whole Friedenberg clan for
lending a hand and some cheering encouragement to the players.
Mike Lewis, Timmy Davis, Chris DiCesare, Matt Friedenberg and Kyle Davidson did our league proud
today.
